Track 32: Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology
https://pathology.utilitarianconferences.com/sponsor-registration
Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (OMFP) is a crucial
specialty that lies at the intersection of dentistry and medicine. It focuses
on the study, diagnosis, and management of diseases affecting the oral
cavity, jaws, salivary glands, temporomandibular joints, facial muscles, and
associated structures. With the increasing prevalence of oral cancers,
developmental anomalies, and infectious diseases, this field plays a vital role
in improving both oral health and systemic well-being.
What is Oral and
Maxillofacial Pathology?
OMFP deals with the identification and understanding of the causes and
mechanisms of diseases that affect the oral and maxillofacial region. It uses
both clinical, radiographic, microscopic, and molecular techniques to
diagnose and manage a wide range of conditions—from benign lesions to
aggressive malignancies.
- Genetic
factors influencing craniofacial development
- Tobacco,
alcohol, and betel nut use leading to oral cancers and
precancerous lesions
- Viral and
bacterial infections such as HPV, HSV, and
syphilis
- Trauma or
developmental anomalies affecting jaws and oral
tissues
- Systemic
diseases (e.g., diabetes, autoimmune conditions) that manifest in the oral
cavity
Types of Oral and Maxillofacial
Pathologies
https://pathology.utilitarianconferences.com/virtual-registration
- Inflammatory
and Infectious Lesions – abscesses, candidiasis,
viral infections
- Benign
Tumors – odontogenic cysts, ameloblastomas
- Malignant
Tumors – oral squamous cell carcinoma, salivary gland malignancies
- Developmental
and Genetic Disorders – cleft lip/palate,
craniofacial syndromes
- Bone and
Soft Tissue Pathologies – fibrous dysplasia,
osteosarcoma
Challenges & Prohibitions
Despite advances, challenges remain:
- Late
diagnosis of oral cancers due to lack of awareness
- Limited
access to oral healthcare in developing regions
- High risk
behaviors such as smoking and tobacco chewing continue to fuel cases
- Barriers
in early screening and molecular-level
diagnostics

Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology is essential for early diagnosis,
treatment planning, and prevention of life-threatening conditions. With
advancements in digital pathology, molecular biology, and AI-driven
diagnostics, the future of OMFP is promising. Greater awareness, early
screening programs, and multidisciplinary collaboration are key to reducing the
global burden of oral diseases.
This topic will be discussed in depth at the 15th Emirates Pathology,
Digital Pathology & Cancer Conference (September 02–04, 2025, Dubai, UAE)
under Track 32: Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, where experts will
